Ed and Al plan to head back to home to get Ed's arm fixed so that he may fix Al's armor body. After that, the two plan to head to the Central City Library to look something up. In order to protect the safety of Ed and Al, Armstrong volunteers to look after the two during this time.
Elsewhere, Marco's safe house has been discovered by Lust and Gluttony. Lust seeks the research data regarding the Philosopher's Stone. Liking the fact that it will bring Ed closer to the Stone, she wishes to look at the documents before hand to make sure they do not tell Ed anything unnecessary.
Marco manages to impale Lust using alchemy but is stunned to find her still alive. In order to force him to talk, Lust calls for Gluttony to enter, and he has a maid's head in his mouth. With no choice, Marco divulges the location of the data, the National Central Library: 1st Branch. Unknown to them, Scar is already headed in that direction.
Back on the train, Ed discovers that Al has been left as luggage at the last station. He and Armstrong are forced to go back for him. However, when they arrive, Al is nowhere to be found. Running through the city, Ed is knocked out, and his leg is taken by a girl who wishes to use it for her father.
Getting farther and farther from the station, Al is forced to speak up.
In the house of the man with one leg, Ed finds out that he lost his leg to an infected sword wound during the Ishbal uprising. He does not want an artificial leg because by looking at his wound, it reminds him of the things that happened in Ishbal. He tells as that a dream that will come true is not a real dream.
Whenever you lose something, you gain something in return is what the man says, but Ed disagrees saying that he lost his right arm and left leg and his brother lost his entire body all for nothing. Seemingly running away from the truth, Ed leaves.
On his way out, he suddenly remembers his brother and dashes off in search of Al. He is surprised to find that Al is sitting on the side of the road not far from the house he just left. In their way back to the station, Ed and Al ponder the reasons behind Mustang's appearance at Pinako's residence the night everything changed.
They are interrupted by Armstrong who has come out of worry. Suddenly, the train whistle blows, and Armstrong picks up the brothers and dashes off to the train station.
