The Crimson Alchemist further practices his skill in molecular annihilation, now alongside the soldiers under Archer's command. While the members of Greed's party slowly gets hacked down one after another, due to the Crimson Alchemist's betrayal, Tucker, Al, and the others keep running.

Back at the butcher shop, Winry sits idly as she awaits the return of her friends. Still detained at the Devil's Nest, Ed argues with the soldiers, but they do not budge. Archer's orders are final.
Inside, Archer welcomes Kimblee, the Crimson Alchemist, and Tucker, the Sweing Life Alchemist back to the military. He will allow Tucker to continue his research undisturbed. In addition, he changes his orders to one of annihilation. All suspicious individuals are to be killed.
Just as Greed is about to escape, Armstrong appears and demands the return of Al. The last of Greed's henchmen steps up to challenge him. Even when using his full strength, he seems outmatched by Armstrong.
Outside, Lust and Gluttony watch events unfold from a rooftop perch.
With a pause in the fighting and the arrival of backup, Greed is able to escape. Meanwhile, Ed, Izumi, and her husband have outwitted the military and continued in their search for Al.
Even while hiding out, Greed is found by Lust and Gluttony who deliver an ultimatum. Be sealed once again or die. But before he can do anything, Law and Dorochet step forward to fight Lust and Gluttony, providing Greed, Al, and Marta the time they need to escape.
Safe, Greed tells Marta and Al to stay put until morning. If he does not return, they are free to go. Greed heads to Dante's house, falling into a trap set be "him".
Inside, Laila tells Greed that he has returned because it was where he was born. She leads him into a room where he suddenly becomes weak. In the presence of his bones, he feels weak. Suddenly, a trasmutation circle actives that causes Greed to vomit out incomplete versions of the Philosopher's Stone which give him life.
Weakened, Greed is no match for Ed who has figured out how to penetrate Greed's "Ultimate Shield". With his dying words, he tells Ed that Homunculus are weakened when they're close to the bones of the person who tried to resurrect them, and he tells Ed to defeat the remaining Homunculus.
Having killed his first person, Ed is devastated. With the arrival of dawn, Marta heads off on her own path. Ed and Izumi burry Dante; once again, Laila has disappeared.
Ed and Al decide to head to Ishbal where their questions hopefully will be answered. The Elric Brothers along with Winry part ways with Izumi once more with the promise of meeting again some day.
